There are a number of factors that go into selecting the right domain name. Here are some tips:

• The best top-level domain is .com so if one is available, use that.
• You can register multiple domain names and point them at the same site if it’s within your budget.
• Shorter domain names are typically better. Longer names are more prone to typos.
• Consider working a keyword into your domain name if it makes sense.
• Always register your business’ domain name.
• Domain names with certain keywords may cost a lot more money but could be worth it in the long run.
•  If it’s within your budget, register common misspellings of your domain name.
• Many registrars offer additional “features’ when you purchase a domain name. Research what you’re getting before you buy as most are unnecessary.
• Note the expiration date of your domain name and create a calendar entry at least one week out for the renewal. Most registrars will send reminders, but in case there’s an issue with email, it’s not worth the risk. Note: we send out reminders to all of our hosting & maintenance clients to ensure that their domain names are renewed.
